Happy Monday! Today I’d love to share more about me, my little family, and how I became a wedding invitation designer!
A little about me:
As you probably already know, I’m Kaitlin, a late twenty-something, wedding stationery designer, based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. I’ve lived here my whole life, and honestly, I love it! Indianapolis is a really awesome city full of so many unique neighborhoods, great eats, and a really fun and supportive group of fellow wedding vendors!
I married my best friend, Jake, in August of 2016, and we’re happily living our newlywed life in an adorable little bungalow in Broad Ripple. Jake is truly the most supportive partner and has always pushed me to make this dream my full-time job. He’s also incredibly smart (he’s a financial advisor and LOVES math), and a great cook! He’s usually *always* the one making dinner for the two of us every night – I’m a lucky girl since I really don’t like to cook. Last year, we added to our little family and adopted our lovable, and goofy, Bernese Mountain Dog, Huckleberry “Huck” Finn. Huck’s a momma’s boy and you’ll often see him make appearances in my Instagram stories since he never leaves my side!
So, how did I become a wedding invitation designer?
I graduated from Indiana University (go Hoosiers!) with my B.A. in Graphic Design, so luckily designing wedding invitations isn’t too far from my educational background, it’s just more of a niche within the design world. After college, and before starting my professional career, I took a life-changing trip to Europe. It was there I found the inspiration for the name of my future business, and also where I realized I wanted to pursue being a wedding invitation designer. I always thought it would have to be something I did on the side, after all, everyone had been telling me the goal was to become a designer in the corporate world and to just do a little freelance if I wanted to. I came home from that trip and started my professional career as a designer working in a marketing department. Although I loved branding and corporate design, I wasn’t feeling fulfilled, had too much downtime at work, and lacked client interaction. I realized I was not happy and needed to make a change, I tried a few companies but kept finding myself in the same rut. As I mentioned before, I knew I loved weddings, and up to this point, I had been using my design talents on the side to make wedding invitations for close friends and family. So, finally in 2016, with my husband’s support, I officially quit my full-time job and leaped into the world of small business ownership as a wedding stationer! Once Athena Street Creative was given my all, it grew tremendously, and I’ve been blessed with so many wonderful couples since making that life-changing decision in 2016.
I love spending every day creating beautiful invitations and meeting with the sweetest couples! My mission as a wedding stationery designer is to create completely custom invitations that capture the style, story, and personality of each unique couple I work with. I personally work with my couples every step of the way, and I’m committed to making the design process easy, enjoyable, and tailored to each individual! I couldn’t imagine a better career, and am so happy to be where I am today.
A few of my favorite things, & daily essentials:
Starbuck’s Strawberry Acai Refreshers, I usually have one a day.
Fresh flowers, some of my favorites are peonies (Indiana’s state flower), hydrangeas and magnolias.
Concealer. I was blessed with some hereditary circles, and It Cosmetics Illuminating Concealer is my holy grail!
My design assistant, and Bernese Mountain Dog, Huck.
Yoga pants, red wine, and reality t.v. – a guilty pleasure of mine.
Musical soundtracks, I love listening to them while working on the computer.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better! Be sure to check back next week to learn more about Athena Street Creative, and how I decided on the name for my business!
